DPMM FC gear up for friendly match with Chinese team

The upcoming international friendly football match between Brunei’s DPMM FC and Guangxi Pingguo Haliao Guojing Football Team from China will be part of DPMM FC’s preparation for the Singapore Premier League this May, said DPMM FC Manager Ali bin Haji Momin during a press conference at Jalan Telanai on Wednesday.

“This upcoming match will be our platform to see the state of the team, which comprises a mixture of old and new players. Our team has been undergoing intensive training to prepare for the friendly as well as the Singapore Premier League,” he added.

DPMM FC will be using the services of four new import players, two of whom have signed their contracts and two still waiting for confirmation but will be announced before the match.

“I hope to expose our local players to a higher level of game by giving them the experience of playing against an international team,” he said.

Event chairperson Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit, who jointly chaired the press conference with the organising committee chairperson Lim Han Chiong, said the match will be a milestone in the local football scene for being the first ever international friendly match held.

He said the upcoming international friendly will take place on April 20 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Guangxi Pingguo are among the favourites to be promoted to the Chinese Premier League this season. In 2023, they were in the second tier and took fourth spot.

Tickets for the match are available for purchase at selected outlet and online. Ticket holders will also stand a chance to win prizes in a lucky draw.

To commemorate the first ever international friendly, t-shirts will also be available for purchase soon. – Lyna Mohamad
