DPMM FC beat Geylang in Singapore Cup

DPMM FC continued their fine form in the Singapore Cup 2023 after securing their second victory with a 4-1 victory over Geylang International FC at Our Tampines Hub in Singapore yesterday.

The unbeaten Gegar Gegar men consolidated their lead at the top of Group ‘A’ with seven points, three ahead of Albirex Niigata (S) who beat Young Lions 2-0.

The group leaders fell behind as Geylang International opened the scoring in the ninth minute through a penalty from Iqbal Hussain.

DPMM FC rising star Hakeme Yazid bin Said saw his shot ricochet off Geylang International captain Joshua Pereira and looped into the net for the equaliser.

The hosts nearly replied as the towering Amirul Adli connected with a firm header following a fine delivery from Takahiro Tezuka.

However, DPMM FC shot stopper Kristijan Naumovski was at his vintage best to pull a reaction save and denied the Geylang defender.

The Bruneian outfit took the lead after foreign import Farshad Noor produced a fine finish with Hakeme Yazid causing torment in the Geylang defence.

DPMM FC turned the tie on its head as striker Andrey Varankou ensured his side go into the break with a healthy two-goal cushion.

Hanif Farhan Azman added a fourth with a fine low strike into the bottom corner after good play from both Farshad and Varankou.

The mobile Hakeme Yazid had the chance to pile further misery but skewed his effort wide after meeting a cross from Nazirrudin Ismail.

The young striker, who had been influential in most of his side’s advances, also saw his effort over the top of the bar.
