DPMM FC have appointed Rui Batista from Portugal as the team’s new head coach for next year’s Singapore Premier League, according to DPMM FC’s official website.
In an interview with Portuguese media, Rui Batista expressed his excitement of joining the club.
“New country, new reality for me, and a very interesting league in Singapore. DPMM FC were in seventh place last season and the objective for this year is to be in the top flight and to be champion if possible,” he said.
The Portuguese coach has vast experience in managing several clubs in different countries. His resume included a Bangladeshi club Mohameddan SC where he won the Bangladesh Cup in 2013/2014 season.
In 2014/2015, he joined Wydad AC of Morocco, and returned to the role of technical director where he was national champion. In August 2015, he signed for Qatar’s Al-Khor, where he trained the B team and managed the under-23 team.
In February 2019, Batista was promoted to assistant manager of Al-Khor FC senior team.
Before coming to Brunei, he was the head coach of Czech club 1 SC Znogmo FK early this year. – James Kon
