Don’t waste opportunities given, says Sultan

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah yesterday urged Bruneian students in Jordan to make full use of their opportunities studying in higher education institutions.

While visiting citizens, residents and students of Brunei Darussalam in Jordan, His Majesty reminded the students that there is a difficult future ahead where substantial human resources are needed. “These resources can be attained through accredited higher education institutions,” said the monarch.

His Majesty said students are fortunate individuals, having the opportunity to become leaders of the future. “In this regard, these opportunities are not to be wasted, as they only come once,” said His Majesty.

His Majesty said the success of students is always desired as they are greatly needed by the country as effective agents for development, be it in secular or spiritual matters.

His Majesty expressed his happiness and gratitude to be able to interact with the Bruneian people in Jordan and know first-hand their well-being, especially the students.

“Despite the small number of students in Jordan, this is very meaningful to the country,” said His Majesty, stating that the students are ‘ambassadors’, helping to establish warm ties between the Sultanate and Jordan.

“If the students are seen to be presentable, Brunei will also be seen as such,” said the monarch. “Therefore, students must prioritise good conduct with a strong grasp on religion.”

His Majesty said in the era of globalisation, there are many elements at work to bring harm, and stressed that these are found everywhere, “such as our homes, offices or schools”, and are not easily recognised unless there are signs and assistance from Allah the Almighty.

“Only then will we be safe from their ill intentions,” said the monarch.

“To gain this safety, we must fulfil the requirement of being loyal to Allah the Almighty.” To this end, His Majesty expressed hope for the students to fulfil the requirement and avoid all difficulties while achieving success in their studies as a reward or blessing for their piety.
