Religious authorities called on Muslims not to expose people’s flaws to others during yesterday’s Friday sermon.
“People forget and still commit it. We frequently show other people’s flaws and make it public, forgetting reminders from Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) not to slander and reveal others’ flaws,” imams said.
Imams also called on Muslims to adorn themselves with modesty, because “modesty is a true believer’s adornment and is a fortress that can prevent us from committing evil deeds and immoralities”.
“Modesty acts as a shield to prevent one from wrongdoing and sinful acts and avoid punishment from Allah the Almighty. We should stay away from sins and think before revealing other’s flaws,” they added.
Imams also said, “There are two types of modesty – blame-worthy modesty which is shy to ask about knowledge one is ignorant of; and praiseworthy modesty which is putting modesty in its place, for example, shy towards Allah the Almighty and shy to commit sin.”
Imams said praiseworthy modesty is divided into three, namely shy towards Allah the Almighty, shy towards others and shy towards oneself.
They added, “Shy towards Allah the Almighty is shown by staying away from things prohibited by Allah the Almighty and avoiding committing immoralities.
“Shy towards other people include not disturbing or hurting others by not spreading slander.
“Shy towards oneself is through controlling the self when alone and protecting the self from blameworthy traits and feeling ashamed to judge others’ flaws and defects.” – Azlan Othman
