The mood was vibrant among Zakat (tithe) recipients, single mothers and orphans as they received donations and were treated to an iftar meal courtesy of a charity programme by Impian Cahaya Iman Project and Halwun Rezqin.
The event, at De Dream Restaurant in Berakas, saw Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin as the guest of honour.
The minister handed over Mushaf Al-Quran as well as donations in the form of food ration to 55 orphans, 20 single mothers and 22 tithe recipients in the run-up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Event chairperson Hajah Faridah binti Haji Awang Mohd Taufik presented a memento to the guest of honour, before Ustaz Mohd Abdul Qawi bin Shamrin led the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil. The breaking of fast followed.
Hajah Faridah expressed gratitude to the donors before expressing hope that such charity projects would serve as a platform to forge stronger bonds.
“The Impian Cahaya Iman Project will continue to serve as an avenue to make skills acquisition – such as cooking and handicraft classes – a success, so as to assist the underprivileged, single mothers and orphans as well as tithe recipients. It also strives to empower and educate women and youth to be independent and free from poverty,” Hajah Faridah said.
Permanent Secretary (Community and Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Acting Director of Social Services at the MCYS Hajah Noridah binti Haji Abdul Hamid and Acting Deputy Director of Community Development at the MCYS Mirany Floridzah binti Abdul Rahman also attended.
