    Donations celebrate faith, generosity

    Zakat, donations presented

    Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd (Takaful Brunei) and its subsidiaries held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in conjunction with Ramadhan at Masjid Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Kampong Jerudong, marking the completion of the recitation of Al-Quran by Takaful Brunei employees.

    Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of Takaful Brunei Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was the guest of honour at the ceremony, attended by the Syariah Advisory Body alongside officers and staff of Takaful Brunei.

    The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the holy verses of Al-Quran. The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony served as a reminder of the importance of faith and devotion during the holy month of Ramadhan.

    As part of Takaful Brunei’s continued efforts in providing support to the community, donations were also presented to 73 orphans, to further instil the spirit of giving and togetherness.

    The event also saw the handing over of zakat to the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) where Takaful Brunei presented zakat on business from Takaful Brunei Am Sdn Bhd (TBA) and Takaful Brunei Keluarga Sdn Bhd (TBK) for the 2023 financial year with a total of BND155,681.27. Its subsidiary, TBK also presented zakat collected on behalf of their Protection & Savings participants, totalling BND24,963.81.

    The zakat was handed over by the minister, witnessed by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Takaful Brunei Haji Shahrildin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Utama Dato Paduka Haji Jaya during Takaful Brunei’s Khatam Al-Quran event.

    TBK has been appointed as an amil by MUIB since September 2019. Since then, TBK has collected and calculated zakat on behalf of their Muslim participants who wish to pay their zakat when they have reached haul and nisab.

    The collection of zakat amount for 2024 are from TBK Protection & Savings products which include Takaful Nur Savings, Takaful Education, Takaful Retirement, Takaful Walimatul Urus, Takaful Dream House, Takaful Savings, Takaful Haj & Umrah, and Takaful Tarbiyah.

    The event also saw the handover of TBK’s Takaful Amal Jariah donations made by Takaful Brunei Mobile App users to representatives of various institutions and organisations. They included MUIB, Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), Society for Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei, Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA), Learning Ladder Society (LLS), Brunei Darussalam Mosque Construction Fund and mosques in the country.

    TBK’s Takaful Amal Jariah allows individuals to contribute financially to their selected institutions and groups of the less fortunate through a systematic protection and savings plan. Users of the Takaful Brunei Mobile app participated in the ‘Double Derma’ campaign where Takaful Brunei doubled the donated Takaful Points of users. As part of Takaful Brunei Mobile’s feature, users may continue to donate their Takaful Points to any charity/organisation of choice.

    Financial assistance for orphans

    The Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) yesterday received a BND20,000 donation from the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam at a ceremony at Gallery of Islamic Calligraphy and Arts Studies Centre at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

    Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo handed over the donation to Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak in her capacity as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the DANA.

    Both Chinese and Islamic cultures have a fine tradition of charity and helping those in need, the Chinese ambassador said. “On behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I am pleased to make a donation to the foundation again, hoping that this donation will help more orphans in Brunei and bring them hope and blessings.”

    The envoy added; “His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni
    Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam paid a state visit to China and attended a meeting with President Xi Jinping.     Four orphans, 11 underprivileged children receive donations

    The Women’s Bureau of the Kampong Sengkurong ‘A’ Consultative Council held a donation ceremony for four orphans and 11 underprivileged children studying at Sengkurong Primary School on Sunday at the residence of the head of Women’s Bureau Datin Hajah Rosmah binti Sulaiman.

    Director of Civil Service Institute Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Md Salleh, the guest of honour, presented the donations.

    The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and concluded with a Doa Selamat by member of the male Tedarus congregation Haji Abas bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
