A Doa Kesyukuran was held yesterday to mark the 40th anniversary of Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman attended as the guest of honour with spouse Datin Hajah Nahriah binti Haji Awang Asbi.
The minister led the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by Al-Quran verses, Doa Khatam and Dikir.
The first Kampong Sungai Besar Mosque was built in 1964 on a quarter-acre piece of land opposite the present location. Due to the increase in population, the mosque was extended in 1980 and moved to its present site in 1982 due to the increasing number of congregants.
The ceremony also saw the minister present vouchers and cash from the mosque to orphans.
There was also a handover of souvenirs to mosque labourer Hifni bin Kuming who retired from his post after serving at the mosque since September 1985.
The ceremony concluded with Doa Selamat and Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam led by Imam Muhammad Hazman bin Haji Mhd Hairol Azme followed by Maghrib prayers. – Azlan Othman
