Diversify strategy to teach Arabic language, says acting minister

In the mastery of the Arabic language, there is a significant relationship between the attitude of the students and the teaching. However, in numerous studies, the teaching ability is greater in determining the students’ success when it comes to learning Arabic, Acting Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan said. 
 
He said this during a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony at The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday.
 
“Teachers need to improve the quality of teaching and learning in line with today’s educational challenges by enhancing students’ understanding and helping them towards more effective learning. 
 
“Diversifying Arabic language teaching strategies will allow improved language abilities among students, including having wisdom in understanding and changing students’ attitudes for the better,” said the acting minister. 
 
He added, “The objective of the Arabic language skills guidance and training programme is to encourage the use of the language and strengthen its status by making it the main language in Arabic schools, developing the institution in providing services related to the language teaching and learning through effective contributions – different approaches, diverse teaching methods, strategies and educational methods.

“The programme can help improve the performance of the teachers and expose them of effective teaching approaches, as well as their ability to teach Arabic.” 
 
Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim also said the programme’s framework is to empower in mastering the Arabic language as well as culturalising the use of the language among school leaders, teaching staff and students at Arabic schools across the country as well as Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB).
 
The event was held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Ta’zeez Al-Lughah Al-’Arabiah Bil Madaris Al-’Arabiah Programme Unit, in collaboration with the Administration Department and the Islamic Studies Department.
 
The event also saw a presentation of certificates to experts from Oman, school leaders and teachers in Arabic schools.
 
The ceremony also served to reward the teaching staff, who participated in a recent Arabic language skills guidance and training programme.
 
The programme started on January 10, 2022 by the Ta’zeez Programme Unit was implemented by an expert from Omani Ministry of Religious Affairs.
 
Some 50 teachers from Arabic schools have participated in the programme. Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Oman to Brunei Darussalam Sultan bin Mohamed Al Azri was also present.
 
Meanwhile, Ad-Dalil Al-Irsyadi Fi At-Tadris Al Hiwari (Handbook On Dialogic Teaching) was also launched at the event. – Azlan Othman
