    Distribution of dates begins

    His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik graced the launch of distribution of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s personal gift of dates in conjunction with the month of Ramadhan, 1443 Hijrah at An-Naura Hall of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex yesterday.

    His Royal Highness as the Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Committee of Governors was greeted upon arrival by the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar in his capacity as the Deputy Chairman I of Yayasan Committee of Governors; State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned as the Deputy Chairman II of Yayasan Committee of Governors; Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof as Chairman of Yayasan Board of Directors; Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar as Deputy Chairman of Yayasan Board of Directors; and Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak as the Acting Managing Director of Yayasan.

    The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.

    The Minister of Defence II in a welcoming speech said the distribution of dates reflected the love and care of His Majesty to all Muslim citizens and residents in the country especially in performing religious deeds (ibadah) during Ramadhan.

    His Royal Highness delivered a sabda to officiate the distribution of dates to representatives of uniformed services, public and private sectors.

    Some 156 metric tonnes of Ajwa dates will be distributed to all Muslim citizens and residents in the Sultanate.
