An event highlighting how Muslims around the world are contributing towards peace through dialogue was held at the Radisson Hotel Brunei yesterday.
The event, hosted by the High Commission of Canada in Brunei Darussalam, saw invited speaker Professor Dr Patrice Brodeur from the University of Montreal speak on the important contributions of Muslim voices to dialogues promoting peace and mutual understanding around the world.
Dr Brodeur was the Canada Research Chair (junior) on Islam, Pluralism and Globalisation from 2005-2015 and the Senior Advisor at the International Dialogue Centre in Vienna, Austria from 2016 to 2021.
His publications include over 50 articles, book chapters and books, and has lectured academically to a variety of audiences and conducted trainings on dialogue in more than 50 countries across the globe.
Following his presentation, a dialogue session followed suit between the guest speaker and invited guests from members of the diplomatic corps, Brunei government, academia, as well as representatives from different faiths.
“We are very happy to welcome Professor Dr Brodeur to Brunei. In Canada, like in Brunei, the role of Muslim voices has been fundamental to promoting peace and dialogue. It is imperative that we continue these conversations bilaterally and in multilateral forums,” said Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Ambra Dickie.
She hoped the conversation can be a helpful contribution to Canada and Brunei’s cooperation internationally as they promote peace, security and prosperity for all. – Lyna Mohamad
