The second Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Youth Dialogue ended yesterday, following the presentation of the 2023 Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Youth Sustainability Award.

The BIBD Most Inspiring Male Youth Sustainability Leader Award was won by Muhammad Riyanulaiman bin Mohammad Yazid; the BIBD Most Inspiring Female Youth Sustainability Leader Award was won by Nabilah Assyahirah binti Norman; and the Best Overall BIBD Youth Sustainability Project was won by Vil-Laju! Brunei.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, as the guest of honour, presented the awards during the ceremony at the Bicara Minda Room, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Library.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi in his closing remarks said, “This event is a testament to our national youth policy, which aims to develop world-class youth and future-ready agents of change.”

He said the end of the forum “by no means mark the end but rather reaffirms your commitment to a noble cause, as the learning journey continues. You have engaged in meaningful discussions, developed innovative solutions and demonstrated a profound understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in achieving the SDGs”.

The forum was organised by the Prime Minister’s Office as the Secretariat to the Special National Coordination Committee (SNCC) on SDGs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), BIBD and UBD School of Business and Economics.

The dialogue conducted by the Brunei Youth Council and Green Brunei with the support of the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. It was attended by 60 youth from higher education institutions.

The dialogue focused on SDG Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), the nation’s commitment towards transforming the responsible production and consumption of good and services, which plays a vital role in promoting innovative solutions and practices that protect the environment. – James Kon
