DES launches 24/7 support for prepaid meter TID rollover

With the Token Identifier (TID) Rollover set for November 24, the Department of Electrical Services (DES) has announced the establishment of a TID Rollover Support Centre to assist customers using prepaid meters nationwide.

The support centre, which began operations on November 18 and will run until December 7, 2024, aims to minimise the impact of the TID Rollover. It operates 24 hours a day and involves collaboration between DES and private agencies, including Unified Smart Metering Services (USMS) Sdn Bhd and Talian Darussalam 123, to facilitate smooth transitions and address potential issues.

The TID is a unique number generated for each token inserted into a meter to ensure single-use validity. When a TID counter experiences a rollover, it resets, causing new tokens to duplicate the numbers of old ones. Active since January 1, 1993, the TID counter is expected to reset to zero on November 24. Tokens generated on this date will duplicate numbers from January 1, 1993, causing meters to reject them as already used.

This TID Rollover will impact prepaid meter users worldwide who use the Standard Transfer Specification (STS). After November 24, tokens may face duplication issues and be rejected by meters.

DES urges customers using prepaid meters from brands STAR, INHE, and PLESSEY who have not yet registered for meter replacement to contact USMS Sdn Bhd to schedule a replacement and ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply.

Customers with prepaid meters from brands ACTARIS, CONLOG, LANDIS GYR, and STAR (with STS upgrades) who have not completed the prepaid meter reset can obtain reset codes at any DES branch counter. These counters are open from 8am to 2:30pm, Monday to Thursday and Saturday, and from 8am to 11am on Fridays from November 15 to December 7, 2024.

Reset codes are also available on the DES website at www.des.gov.bn. Customers can click on the TID Rollover button, enter their meter number, and receive the code free of charge. Additionally, reset codes can be requested through the TID hotline, which supports contact via WhatsApp for public convenience.
