The Department of Electrical Services (DES) under the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday debunked a widely circulated social media message suggesting an impending electricity disruption across the nation on October 14, 16 to 19 and 21.
In an official statement, the department clarified that the claims of a nationwide power interruption were baseless and cautioned against the spread of misinformation.
While acknowledging the necessity of periodic maintenance to enhance the country’s power supply, the department stressed that such activities will be communicated in advance, specifying the affected areas and the scheduled time for the works. The public was also urged to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could incite unnecessary panic and disrupt public tranquility.
Moreover, following the power outage in certain regions including the Belait, Tutong and parts of the Brunei-Muara districts on Tuesday, DES confirmed the successful restoration of electricity in affected areas, as per their early morning update. – James Kon
