The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS), through the Department of Consumer Affairs, has reaffirmed the importance of ethical and transparent sales practices to strengthen consumer confidence following routine inspections of businesses participating in the Jualan Mega Brunei (JMB) 2025 campaign.
The inspections serve as a reminder for businesses to clearly display prices and ensure transparency in their sales terms and conditions, in compliance with the Cheap Sale Price Regulations and the Price Display Order under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142. Non-compliance may result in a fine of up to BND1,000, with repeat offenders facing a maximum penalty of BND20,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

DEPS’ inspections cover various retail sectors nationwide, including retail stores, home décor and furniture outlets, electrical goods shops, and textile businesses. Ethical business practices not only protect consumers from misinformation but also foster a more sustainable and trustworthy retail environment.
The public is encouraged to report unethical sales practices through Talian Darussalam 123, the PenggunaBijak mobile app, or via email at consumercomplaints@jpes.gov.bn.
