Delima Satu Primary School and Jerudong Primary School emerged winners in the under-11 and under-9 categories of the National Grassroots Football for School Festival at the FABD Football Field in Berakas yesterday.
Datu Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Primary School finished runners-up in the under-11 category while Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School came third.
Meanwhile, in the under-9 category, Sengkurong Primary School claimed the runners-up spot with Datu Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Primary School in third place.
Jerudong Primary School and Binturan Primary School emerged winners in the under-11 and under-9 categories of the plate groups.
Muhammad Shareel Qays bin Mohammad Suhardi from the Delima Satu Primary School was awarded the best player and top scorer while his teammate Adam Mukriz Kong Qi Tak won the top goalkeeper award in the under-11 category.
In the under-9 category, Awangku Mohammad Imamul Mubin bin Pengiran Muhammad Shaidil from the Datu Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Primary School was named best player and top scorer.
The festival was organised by the Ministry of Education through the Physical and Recreation Division, Department of Co-Curriculum Education in collaboration with the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD).
Acting Director of the Department of Co-Curriculum Education Julaihi bin Mohamad/ Mohamat was the guest of honour during the final stage and the prize presentation ceremony.
A total of 300 participants consisting of government and private primary school students from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs took part in the festival.
The festival initially commenced with the preliminary stage on March 12.
The festival aimed to expose students to football from primary level and to instil values through sports such as healthy lifestyle, discipline, resilience, leadership as well as sportsmanship, teamwork and competitiveness.
It also served as a platform to contribute to the development of football in the Sultanate at the grassroots level.
It also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in ensuring a healthy lifestyle and promoting well-being for all ages.
