Delay due to lack of accountability

After almost two years of waiting, my housing application as a civil servant was finally approved in principle and the tenancy agreement signed recently.

All that is left is for the authority to issue a memo confirming the approval of the house.

I was informed by my department’s housing unit that the process usually took two weeks.

However, two months have passed and the memo is still nowhere to be found.

I asked the housing unit if there was a way to obtain my application or case number that could be used to follow up directly with the relevant authority.

However, the officer said it was not something he could provide as such a practice would allow applicants to follow up with them, which they would rather avoid.

But if there is no way to follow up, how do we know they are doing their job? And how many other government branches employ similar tactics to avoid being reminded of their responsibilities?

While I am grateful to be given the opportunity to apply for government housing, it should not come at the cost of being silenced about inefficiencies in the public sector as these inefficiencies affect the morale of the local workforce.
