Dedication is an important factor in achieving academic success, said His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) at the 11th KUPU SB Convocation Ceremony at International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas yesterday.
The monarch called on the graduates to practise what have been learnt at KUPU SB and disseminate it to the community. “Experience and knowledge must be continually nurtured and practised; such is the true goal of learning,” said His Majesty.
The monarch also consented to the establishment of a new faculty at KUPU SB – the Faculty of Social Science Education – that serves as a hub for research, the expansion of syllabus and pedagogy related the society such as Islam’s history, health and civilisation.
His Majesty applauded the college’s efforts in incorporating Islamic history in its Higher Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree programmes, following a call made by the monarch in a titah in 2018 for the subject to be made compulsory at all education institutions.
His Majesty also highlighted social initiatives of the college, such as organising roadshows on ‘menghalusi sembahyang’ (refining prayers) in accordance with Mazhab As-Syafi’e, which saw the participation of 1,500 non-religious teachers at the Ministry of Education (MoE); training for trainers courses for teachers to enhance their knowledge on Al-Quran teaching; National Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Education Seminar; and Dai’e strengthening workshop, as “beneficial projects” in advancing the knowledge of the people.
With a number of international seminars under its wings, the monarch believes that KUPU SB has gained a solid footing in the international arena, while praising the efforts of the college in extending scholarship to regional and international students.
