Daily cases pass 3,000 mark

The daily new COVID-19 cases passed the 3,000 mark setting a new record of 3,251 yesterday. With the surge, the number of active cases is 19,382.

One death was also recorded yesterday but it was not categorised as COVID-related due to the deceased’s multiple health problems. This brings the death toll since March 2020 to 112, where 61 were COVID-related.

This was revealed by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at a press conference yesterday.

The minister said of the new cases, 2,521 were from antigen rapid test (ART) screenings and 730 from 5,590 RT-PCR tests performed in the past 24 hours. With the new addition, the number of confirmed cases is 41,049.

There were 972 cases declared recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 21,555.

The bed occupancy rate at isolation centres is 8.8 per cent (209 patients) while 19,173 positive cases are undergoing home isolation.

Eight cases are in Category 4, requiring oxygen assistance and under close monitoring while no patients are in Category 5.

There are currently 147 active clusters with no new clusters at business premises and public places.

As of February 21, over 94 per cent of Brunei population had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with 51.9 per cent administered the third dose.
