Daily cases hit new low in third wave

The Sultanate yesterday recorded 61 new daily COVID-19 cases, the lowest since the arrival of the third wave earlier in the year.

According to Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, 58 cases were results from antigen rapid test screenings and three from 596 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally of positive cases to 141,911.

The minister also said at the daily press conference that no COVID fatalities were reported yesterday.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham revealed that there are currently no patients in Category 5, while one patient is in Category 4 requiring respiratory assistance.

He added that some 130 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 141,022, while out of 671 active cases, 12 are receiving treatment at hospitals and 659 undergoing home isolation.

Meanwhile, some 50.5 per cent of children aged five to 11, or 21,687 in the age group, have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, said the minister.

He added that some 1,040 vaccine doses were administered to the age group on Saturday alone.

The minister said 911 children received the second dose, bringing the total number of double-vaccinated children to 2,005, or 4.7 per cent of children in the age group.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also revealed that 65.6 per cent of the population have been boosted against the coronavirus.
