Cutting-edge diagnostics, sustainability highlighted at celebration

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), graced the International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day celebration yesterday.

Hosted by the Laboratory Department at JPMC, the celebration adopted the 2025-2026 theme ‘Biomedical Laboratory Scientists Promoting Sustainability in Clinical Diagnostics’, highlighting JPMC’s commitment to environmentally responsible laboratory practices while delivering cutting-edge patient care.

Head of the Laboratory Department at JPMC Dr Haji Mohamad bin Haji Kassim, in his remarks, emphasised how innovation and technology are enabling laboratories to reduce waste and energy consumption without compromising diagnostic excellence.

The event continued with the cutting of a cake by the minister, along with Dr Haji Mohamad and the Chief Medical Officer of JPMC Dr Meera Sahib Kabeer.

Attendees were invited to explore three interactive activity booths featuring games and quizzes designed to showcase the vital role of laboratory scientists. This was followed by a Hari Raya celebration. The annual celebration served both as a recognition of the contributions of laboratory professionals and a demonstration of JPMC’s commitment to diagnostic excellence. It also highlighted how laboratory science continues to evolve and expand its impact on patient outcomes and public health. – James Kon
