The Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) thwarted smuggling attempts at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post and Kampong Pintu Malim.

On October 16, officers at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post apprehended a 34-year-old permanent resident attempting to smuggle 150 cartons of cigarettes and 948 cans of alcohol.

The vehicle used for the operation was also seized.

The same day, law enforcement officers conducted an operation in Kampong Pintu Malim, resulting in the detention of a 25-year-old local man and a 34-year-old foreign national.

The seized items during the operation included one suspicious packet believed to contain controlled drugs, 1,724 cartons of cigarettes and two vehicles used to transport the contraband.

All confiscated items were transported to the RCED for further examination, while the suspicious packet was handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau.

The department urged the public to comply with laws and regulations and to avoid involvement in smuggling activities.

The possession of contraband is an offence under Section 140 of the Customs Order, 2006 and Section 146 of the Excise Order, 2006. – James Kon
