Cultivating love for reading through host of activities

Tutong Sixth Form Centre (PTET) celebrated a World Book and Copyright Day for the first time recently.

This year’s theme, ‘Indigenous Language’, aimed to promote awareness on the language, cultivate a sense of love for reading among students and enhance the students creativity through writing, reading, and arts.

PTET Principal Mohd Shahnofazli bin Haji Sabli, in his opening remarks, expressed gratitude for the abundance of encouragement in making the event a success.

Among the activities lined up for the celebration was a meeting with local writers Dr Aammton Alias and Nurajimah binti Haji Jefri.

Dr Aammton has written 30 books, including six series of Real Ghost Stories of Borneo.

Meanwhile, Nurajimah is a graduate from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). She is also a writer and editor at Qasrun Nafis Publishing House. She has published three books – two novels and a short story.

The celebration was enlivened by teachers and students donning costumes inspired by famous book characters.

Prizes were given to best dressed teachers, school staff and students.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Izzat Izzuddin bin Ali Noordin won the story-telling contest and Nur Syazziqah binti Rasigawata was awarded for her dance performance on Masquerade of the Guilty.

In addition, students attended a recital of a poem Children of Palestine by sociology teacher Nurul Hadina binti Haji Alias.

There were also workshops on bookmark making and calligraphy writing.
