    Cruise tourists praise Bruneians, country

    Machiko, an 82-year-old tourist from Japan, on board the cruise ship Zhao Shang Yi Dun – Viking Sun, expressed admiration for the politeness of Bruneians.

    He was particularly impressed when drivers stopped their cars to allow pedestrians to cross the street, highlighting the locals’ respectful and courteous nature.

    Meanwhile, Suzanne, a visitor from Brisbane, Australia, described her experience in Brunei Darussalam as unforgettable.

    Among the highlights of her visit were a scenic water taxi tour through Kampong Ayer, an exploration of a captivating museum, and a tour of the majestic Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.

    She was deeply impressed by the country’s vibrant cultural heritage and warm hospitality, leaving with a lasting appreciation for Brunei’s unique charm.

    Brunei recently welcomed Zhao Shang Yi Dun – Viking Sun, the second cruise vessel to dock in the Sultanate this year.

    Zhao Shang Yi Dun – Viking Sun arrived from Kota Kinabalu, carrying 257 passengers and 351 crew members, before continuing its journey to Singapore after a brief stop in Brunei.

    The passengers were welcomed with a vibrant hadrah performance, showcasing Brunei’s rich cultural heritage.

    Their itinerary included visits to iconic landmarks such as Istana Nurul Iman, Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the historic Kampong Ayer, offering them an immersive experience of Brunei’s history and culture.

    Many also savoured traditional delicacies and purchased authentic souvenirs at the Cruise Ship Centre, adding a personal touch to their visit. According to the Tourism Development Department, the cruise ship’s arrival underscores Brunei’s growing appeal among Chinese cruise travellers.

    Zhao Shang Yi Dun – Viking Sun is the second of at least 11 cruise ships expected to visit Brunei in 2025, reflecting the Sultanate’s efforts to attract more visitors through the cruise market.

    The Tourism Development Department is set to welcome the next vessel, Norwegian Sky, scheduled to dock on February 3 for its second visit. – James Kon
