His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, visited the Anegasaki Thermal Power Station in Ichihara, Japan yesterday.

On arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Japan’s New Energy for a New Era (JERA) President Hisahude Okuda, Anegasaki Thermal Power Station Director Kentaro Saga and JERA Senior Managing Executive Officer Kazunori Kasai.

His Royal Highness was briefed on JERA – a joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power – which operates the Anegasaki Thermal Power Station, as well as the background on the station.

His Royal Highness also visited the central control room, the command centre of the station, as well as the Turbine No 1 building.

The Anegasaki Thermal Power Station, with a capacity of 3.15 gigawatts, is the first digital power plant built by JERA. The plant is capable of generating power efficiently with low carbon dioxide emissions, using combine-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology. JERA’s ambition towards zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 through, among others, the generation of renewable energy, is in line with the country’s commitment towards the same goal.

Over the past five decades, Japanese companies like JERA have been Brunei Darussalam’s foundation customers for energy.

Similarly, the Sultanate is committed to continue its role as a reliable energy supplier to meet the energy security needs of Japan, with supplies to JERA and other customers in Japan.
