Crown Prince officiates UTB Convocation Festival

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) officiated the university’s 7th Convocation Festival at Teratak Putih, UTB yesterday.

His Royal Highness was greeted by Minister of Education and Chair of UTB Council Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh and UTB Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.

Following the launch of the convocation festival, His Royal Highness toured the ‘Science, Technology and Innovation’ exhibition which highlighted the publications and contributions of students whose projects contributed significant impacts to society.

The Science Cluster showcased projects such as: The mediating role of religiosity on the influence of resilience perceived stress, and self-efficacy on life satisfaction among Brunei university students in the pandemic era; Rama-Rama: an interactive 3D animation about Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD); and Nutritional compositions of ‘zingiber officinale pasta’ with the incorporation of herbal plants.

The Technology Cluster exhibited projects comprised IoT based water quality monitoring system in relation to flood and drought in Brunei; Eco Campus/Capstone: Considering wheelchair users to poor housing accessibility with the help of collapse ramp; and Detection of early stages hand tremors using hand movement signal.

A performance by UTB students

The Innovation cluster showcased Non-Newtonian fluid models for blood flow analysis under abnormal rheological states; and Flexible pavement improvement through chemical soil stabilisation and rubberised asphalt modification.

Meanwhile, UTB’s students clubs presented performances; including martial arts, Tausyeh, traditional music, and Japanese cultural performance in front of the Pearl Building of the university.

His Royal Highness also received a miniature of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (RIPAHS) Bridge as a pesambah from UTB students.

Other events lined up in conjunction with the 7th UTB Convocation Festival, include a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, Leadership Workshop, K-Movie Night, Salam programme, UTB Carnival, UThriftB, UTB Debate Competition, and University Leadership Camp.

The annual festival celebrates students who had completed their studies and will receive their degrees at the UTB Convocation Ceremony on September 5.
