His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) launched the month-long UBD Convocation Festival 2023 at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre, UBD yesterday.
His Royal Highness was presented with various stage performances including a sketch, ‘Riuh-Riuh Konvo’, performed by the university’s Arabic Language Club and the Pendeta Bahasa Club, followed by a sajak written by UBD lecturer Mohammed Zefri bin Mohamed Zain Arif and performed by Hajib Sarhan. The stage performances ended with singing of the official UBD song written by UBD 2017 alumni Juan Madial performed by the UBD choir.
The opening ceremony also saw the presentation of a pesambah from the Student Representative Council of UBD Students’ Association (PMUBD) to His Royal Highness.
His Royal Highness toured the convocation festival showcase organised by the Student Affairs Section and PMUBD.
This year’s convocation festival showcases four art and technology projects by current and graduating students demonstrating constructive ideas of youth, courage in involving themselves in various fields and industries as well as their spirit in innovating and shaping the country’s future.
A Khatam Al-Quran and a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony will be held tomorrow to bless the graduating students in their future endeavours.
Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle and officials from government agencies were also present.
The convocation festival is held annually in the run-up to the university’s convocation ceremony to celebrate graduates’ success and achievements showcasing ideas and creations by its current and graduating students.
The convocation ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 21 at UBD Chancellor Hall. – Adib Noor
