Crown Prince joins group photo session with DPMM FC

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, who is also the Chairman of DPMM FC, joined the players and management for a group photo session at the Jerudong Park Mini Stadium in Jerudong yesterday.

Also present was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim bin Pengiran Indera Mahkota Pengiran Anak (Dr) Kemaludin Al-Haj, who is the Vice Chairman of DPMM FC.

Following the end of the photo session, His Royal Highness mingled with the DPMM FC players and members of the club’s management and officials.

The Gegar Gegar men emerged newly-crowned Brunei FA Cup 2022 winners over the weekend after a 2-1 victory against Kasuka FC in the final at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

It marks their second FA Cup trophy and third domestic silverware having won the Brunei League in 2003 and the cup competition a year later prior to their commitments in the Malaysia and Super League.

The team also enjoyed further joy in the individual front as starlet Muhammad Hakeme Yazid Said won the Young Player award while Muhammad Nurikhwan Othman picked up the Best Player award.

Prior to the latest instalment of the Brunei FA Cup, the team last completed a league season in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) in 2019, where they were crowned champions for a second time.

Recently, the club received a boost to their hopes of a competitive return in the Singapore league after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Competitions Committee agreed to give its consent for the participation of the club in the Singapore football competitions after approving the decisions of the AFC Club Licensing Task Force.

According to a press statement by the regional football governing body, the decisions of the AFC Club Licensing Task Force was made during a meeting on August 24.

The Jerudong-based outfit have not been able to play league football in Singapore amid travel restrictions owed to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently saw the departures of their foreign representatives.

Currently, Muhammad Azwan Ali Rahman has been entrusted the captaincy role, leading a squad with a good mix of fresh and experienced players, under the guidance of Head Coach Mohammad Helme Panjang.
