Brunei Darussalam will no longer require travellers to obtain COVID-19 insurance coverage starting on December 1, said Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof at a press conference yesterday.

The minister however encouraged travellers to obtain travel insurance coverage for peace of mind, as it may help cover medical or treatment cost from unexpected incidents while overseas.

The minister also advised citizens travelling overseas to inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of their travel details via the MFA e-Register on the ministry’s website. “Registration of these details will enable the MFA to identify Brunei citizens who are overseas in the event of an emergency incident occurring in another country,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, the average number of daily reported COVID-19 infections between November 22 to 28 was at 643 cases, compared to 649 the week before, according to Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.

A total of 57,502 COVID-19 antigen rapid test (ART) results were uploaded to the BruHealth app within that period, of which 7.8 per cent were positive.

The minister said 566 new cases have been reported yesterday, of which 564 cases were results from ART and two were from 79 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also reported two cases in Category 5, requiring treatment in the intensive care unit.
