An Iban couple began their new journeys in life as Muslims after reciting the Syahadah during a conversion ceremony at the RPN Kampong Rataie yesterday.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah followed by the Syahadah by 63-year-old Wilson @ Jerudong Anak Ampaling and his wife, 59-year-old Letipah Anak Dingai, conducted by conversion officers from the Temburong Dakwah Unit of the Dakwah Development Division at Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI).
Wilson is now known as Syahrullah bin Abdullah Ampaling while his wife chose Latifah binti Abdullah Dingai as her Muslim name.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and spouse attended the event.
The minister presented souvenirs to the converts.
The ceremony was enlivened with a Dikir Marhaban and sprinkling of scented flowers and concluded with a Doa Selamat. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan and spouse were also present.
Up to June 30, some 171 people have embraced Islam in Brunei. – Lyna Mohamad
