For those of you who prefer cosying up at home for the rest of Ramadhan and maybe even during the early days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, I’ve curated an exciting line-up of new Netflix original series and movies set to premiere this month.

CRIME SCENE BERLIN: NIGHTLIFE KILLER

Set in 2012 Berlin, this German series follows a string of murders that grips the city with fear. Investigators face mounting pressure to crack the case and bring the perpetrator to justice.

NINJAGO: DRAGONS RISING (Season 2) (April 4)

Among Lego’s various crossovers and original series, the Ninjago franchise stands out as one of its most beloved creations. A fresh generation emerges as the new guardians of the world when the legendary realms merge into one. The battle between good and evil intensifies as they vie for control over the elemental dragons.

RIPLEY (LIMITED SERIES) (APRIL 4)

Renowned British actor Andrew Scott is set to deliver a captivating performance in Netflix’s adaptation of the timeless tale, The Talented Mr Ripley. Set against the backdrop of 1960s New York, the story follows Ripley, a skilled con artist, who is enlisted by a wealthy individual to retrieve his rebellious son from Italy. Little does Ripley know, this mission will plunge him into a labyrinth of deception, fraud, and murder?

THE TEARSMITH (2024) (APRIL 4)

Adapted from Erin Doom’s novel and directed by Alessandro Genovesi, the Italian series revolves around Nica (Dana Melanie) and Rigel (Simone Baldasseroni), orphaned children adopted simultaneously, navigating the challenges of their new lives as they strive to find belonging and adapt to their new surroundings.

SCOOP (2024) (APRIL 5)

Gillian Anderson stars as journalist Emily Maitlis in a series depicting her ground-breaking interview with Prince Andrew. Focused on his controversial ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the show delves into the events leading up to this pivotal moment in history, promising intrigue and insight into the behind-the-scenes dynamics.

PARASYTE: THE GREY (SEASON 1) (APRIL 5)

Yeon Sang-Ho, of Train to Busan fame, leads the South Korean adaptation of the revered Japanese manga. Jung Soo-in’s parasitic infection results in a unique cohabitation, while Seol Kang-woo seeks his missing sister, and Choi Jun -kyung heads The Grey, determined to eliminate the parasite after losing her husband to it.

ANTHRACITE (LIMITED SERIES) (APRIL 10)

Set in the French Alps, this French series unfolds 30 years after a notorious mass suicide cult shocked a small village. A young offender stands accused of murder, finding an unlikely ally in the eccentric Ida, who is on a quest to find her missing father.

MIDSUMMER NIGHT (LIMITED SERIES) (APRIL 11)

At the heart of the Norwegian series lies Cariana, who gathers her family for a Midsummer celebration. When she shares a significant secret with her closest friends and relatives, it sets off a chain of unforeseen consequences.

WOODY WOODPECKER GOES TO CAMP (2024) (APRIL 12)

Woody Woodpecker undergoes a revival. Displaced from his forest home, he discovers Camp Woo Hoo, only to confront closure by an inspector. The show promises to reintroduce the beloved character while facing contemporary challenges.

REBEL MOON – PART TWO: THE SCARGIVER (2024) (APRIL 19)

Whether you’re a fan or not, get ready for the return of Rebel Moon with its second instalment this Spring. But that’s not all – Zack Snyder is already crafting the script for a potential third film, hinting at more to come in the Rebel Moon saga.

CITY HUNTER (2024) (APRIL 25)

Based on Tsukasa Hojo’s manga, City Hunters is a Japanese series featuring Ryohei Suzuki as Ryo Saeba, a sharpshooting private detective with a penchant for chasing women.

Following his partner’s demise, he takes their younger sister under his wing, embarking on a new journey filled with intrigue and action.

THE ASUNTA CASE (LIMITED SERIES) (APRIL 26)

In the Spanish crime drama, the focus is on the murder of Asunta Basterra, a 12-year-old Chinese girl adopted into a family. Her tragic death, discovered outside her family home, sparks one of Spain’s most startling criminal investigations, unravelling layers of mystery and intrigue. – Izah Azahari
