Convoy ride celebrates His Majesty’s birthday

About 170 members of the Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) rode across the country in a convoy to mark His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 77th birthday on Saturday.

The convoy of 150 big bikes flagged off from the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex where its president, Pengiran Haji Redzuan bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad delivered a safety briefing.

Dubbed ‘Keputeraan Ride 2023’, the annual convoy was carried out in a different format this year, with the members divided into nine groups.

Each group was given 77 checkpoints during the journey.

The checkpoints were historical landmarks and places of interest with the ride time for each group being about three hours covering all the four districts to tally up to 39 hours, symbolising the 39th National Day anniversary.

The convoy ended at the Menara Cendera Kenangan in Kuala Belait.

The annual event serves to gather members to celebrate the monarch’s birthday and showcase the spirit of solidarity while strengthening ties. – Lyna Mohamad
