A 31-year-old local man was sentenced to four weeks in jail after pleading guilty to stealing an air-conditioner from Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School.
On September 21, Mohd Nasri bin Haji Ismail, who worked as a general contractor, stole an air-conditioning unit from the school’s design and technology (D&T) block. The theft was discovered and reported to the police by the school principal on September 23.
According to court documents, Mohd Nasri was at the school to collect work documents. He asked security personnel for permission to inspect light fixtures and, while at D&T block, noticed a pile of unused air-conditioners. Assuming they were for disposal, he loaded one unit into his brother’s car and took it home. However, the unit could not be installed at his house, and he disposed it at night.
Following the school principal’s report, police investigations were launched. CCTV footage showed Mohd Nasri loading the air-conditioner into a car at 9.32am on the day of the theft.
He was arrested two days later and admitted to the crime.
The stolen air-conditioner could not be recovered.
