Contraband bust down orchard stretch

James Kon

COVID-19 Task Force Joint Operation members apprehended a 46-year-old local ferrying 300 cartons of cigarettes in his vehicle in Kampong Junjongan yesterday.

Upon noticing a suspicious vehicle travelling down an orchard road, the team stopped the driver for an inspection, resulting in the detection of two large packages concealed in the bonnet. In them were the cartons of contraband cigarettes. The patrolling personnel scoured the surrounding areas and found four boxes believed to contain more cigarettes.

The Limau Manis Police Station and the Royal Customs and Excise Department were contacted to assist with the investigation.

Personnel from the Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit and Royal Brunei Armed Forces were involved in the joint operation, the Royal Brunei Police Force said.
