Contemporary Japanese art showcased in Brunei

The Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja, is currently hosting the Japan Foundation’s Travelling Art Exhibition, ‘Variation and Autonomy: The Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters’.

The exhibition, marking the final cultural event of the Japan-Brunei Friendship Year, is open from November 19 to December 8, commemorating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brunei.

The exhibition showcases the work of 10 artists who expanded the range of expression in contemporary art through printmaking from the 1960s to the 1980s.

It highlights a new field of art, prints made by painters, developed through contemporary Japanese prints.

A total of 42 prints are on display, featuring works from renowned artists such as Murai Masanari, Onosato Toshinobu, Tabuchi Yasukazu, Kusama Yayoi, Nakanishi Natsuyuki, Nakazato Hitoshi, Murakami Tomoharu, Hikosakai Naoyoshi, Hori Kosai, and Tatsuno Taeko.

The exhibition is open to the public, free of charge, at Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja in the capital. – James Kon
