My current favourite jogging track is at the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas as I enjoy the beautiful scenery and it’s less crowded in the mornings. Recently I decided to make a detour at the waterfront area as I wanted to have my breakfast at one of the restaurants nearby.
The water taxis cruising along the river is always a pleasant sight.However what I personally witnessed was quite disappointing.
Most of the operators and passengers were not wearing their life jackets, despite constant reminders by the authorities on its safety benefits. Boat operators and passengers have always been reminded to use life jackets, safety equipment and ensure that they are in good condition. Even during a short trip, it is essential to wear the life jacket as one cannot be sure when a mishap could occur.
The passenger can politely request for the water taxi operator to wear a life jacket before getting on the boat, and it could even work the other way around where the operator could leave the life jackets in plain view.
It takes two to play the game so if one were to initiate, the other party would have to comply.
All forms of water transportation, particularly boats, are easily exposed to hazards, weather and unstable water conditions. Life jackets help wearers to keep afloat, so that they can easily be rescued.
