Jeff Straus, the president of Countdown Entertainment,emphasised the meticulous attention given to even the minutest details. The 5-by-5-centimetre slips of paper, destined to cascade from the skies at the stroke of midnight on Sunday, underwent careful scrutiny. “This is a whole process,” Straus explained. “We got to feel the confetti. We got to fluff it up. We got to make sure it’s going to float.” This behind-the-scenes insight underscores the dedication required to ensure that every element of the celebration contributes to the grandeur of the occasion.
While the confetti test may have had a promotional flair, the actual release on New Year’s Eve is a labour-intensive tradition dating back to 1992. A staggering 1,361 kilogrammes of confetti are annually transported into midtown Manhattan, where it is meticulously carried to the rooftops of office buildings overlooking Times Square.
