Delegates from Heidelberg Materials Butra Sdn Bhd representing Brunei Darussalam attended the ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM) Conference in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam on December 5.
The conference themed ‘ASEAN Cement Collaboration Towards Green Industry’ underscored the region’s collective commitment to sustainability, innovation and economic growth. The event served as a platform for member nations to exchange ideas and strategies to advance the cement industry while addressing critical challenges such as environmental sustainability and global supply chain resilience.
A key initiative, ‘Tatak Pinoy Act’ from the Philippines, prioritises locally produced goods and empowers Filipino businesses. The initiative reflects ASEAN’s collaborative spirit, showcasing how member states are fostering homegrown industries and promoting sustainable practices to strengthen regional economies.
Looking ahead, Brunei Darussalam is set to host the AFCM Conference in 2025, with a primary focus on decarbonisation in the cement industry.
As the global drive toward net-zero emissions gains momentum, Brunei aims to lead discussions on adopting greener technologies, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting sustainability across ASEAN’s cement sector.
The conference reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to cross-border collaboration, resource-sharing, and innovation as the region strives to build a greener, more resilient future.
