Conference highlights Islamic research development

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) recently participated in the Borneo Islamic International Conference (KAIB XIII) in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

KAIB is a knowledge discourse platform aiming to expand and develop Islamic research in the Borneo Island, led by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak in collaboration with UiTM Sabah; UNISSA, Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB); Mulawarman University, Samarinda; Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin and Pontianak Islamic Religious Institute, Indonesia.

Present to inaugurate the conference was Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, as the representative of Chief Minister of Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. Leading the UNISSA delegation was Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal.

The conference, held from September 7-8, was themed ‘Role and Contribution of Islamic Institutions’ and covered 68 papers including five main papers.

Among the main presenters at the conference were Director of Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre at UNISSA Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim and Chairman of Korea Halal Association (KOHAS), Korea Saifullah JO, Young-Chan.

Fourteen UNISSA presenters also took the opportunity to expand the field of cooperation with several institutions in Kuching through work visits to the Islamic Religious Department in Sarawak, Borneo Cultural Museum, Halal Laboratory, Farm, Borneo Islamic Development and Research Centre and UiTM Samarahan Sarawak campus.
