Concerns over crowding at gerai

Gerai Ramadhan is one of the annual events that locals most look forward to. It is a time when we throng the market in search of food to break the fast with.

However, I am concerned about the huge turnover, judging from the photos that have been circulating on social media.

The Raya festivities are just around the corner. Coupled with our high vaccination rate, some people are starting to forget that the world is still battling a COVID-19 pandemic.

Big gatherings, such as Gerai Ramadhan, are breeding grounds for infections to spread.

Parents should leave their young children at home if they choose to visit the market. After all, we are not out of the woods yet, as the authorities have repeatedly warned us.

Perhaps it is not the right time to abandon prudence and focus on the long-term goal of keep the lid tightly on the pandemic once and for all.
