Concerns over address discrepancies on green identity cards

We would like to express our gratitude to the authorities for facilitating more efficient green identity card (IC) application appointments. It has significantly resolved the challenges we faced in renewing our cards.

However, we would like to bring another issue to light.

Previously, we could ensure that the residential address was correctly reflected on the IC by filling it out in the application form. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Instead, the authorities now use the address from the Foreign Worker Licence (LD) application form.

The issue lies in the LD document itself, which often includes multiple employees under one residential address. There is no provision in the LD application to list the address of each employee. As a result, if there are 10 applicants in one LD document, nine of them will end up with an incorrect residential address on their ICs. It is especially true in situations where the employees differ in gender, region and marital status, making it highly unlikely that they all reside under one roof.

When we approached the authority, we were told that if the address field in the application form is left blank, the applicants might be able to have their correct residential addresses printed in their ICs. Then another department advised us strongly against leaving the section blank. Such conflicting information makes it a challenge for us to ascertain the step forward. Having an IC with an incorrect address can be problematic for the holder in the long run, after all. How do we proceed without breaking the law? We hope the authorities could provide us with some clarification on how the issue can be resolved.
