Concerned over origins of pet foods

In Brunei, it is not uncommon to find pets in households. What I have noticed is that most quality cat and dog foods are brought in from Western countries.

While these foods are not meant for human consumption, I believe as Muslims, we should not be touching the ones that are haram. As a matter of fact, I would like to call on the authorities to separate cat and dog foods at pet stores. Ideally, cat foods should be sourced from countries that can guarantee that their products are suci (pure) and bersih (clean).

Same goes for pet clinics. Cats and dogs should not be housed in the same room, and the handling of dogs should be restricted to non-Muslim staff. We ought to be strict with these rules as Muslim cat owners might unknowingly bring non-halal items home.
