Concern for the poor amid rising cost

When the authorities announced that we were heading back to normal, I was relieved that we’re no longer bound by restrictive pandemic measures.

However, with one challenge overcome, we are once again battling something outside of our control – in the form of inflation.

With price hikes everywhere, it is quite a struggle to maintain a certain standard of living. I have already cut down on eating out, in an attempt to save money. However, it seems the rising cost has also put me off preparing meals at home due to basic ingredients being costlier than before.

My friends had thought that perhaps with the land border re-opening, they could somehow take advantage of the exchange rate to shave monthly expenses. But it now appears to be an unviable option as taxation has also been introduced for cross-border purchases.

As someone with a decent pay, I can still afford to live well despite the rising cost.

My concern is for the people near the poverty line. How are they coping with inflation now when it was already hard to make ends meet prior to this current crisis?
