Competition fosters culture of dikir, selawat

A number of school teams were jubilant after winning religious competitions for primary and secondary schools which concluded recently.

Al-Falaah School won both the male and female categories of the Qiraat Zikir and Selawat competition for primary schools with scores of 90 and 87.5. In the male category, the Belait Arabic School was the runner-up with 85 points while in the Female category Team 1 from Sinaran Mas School was runner up with 83.5 points.

Meanwhile, in Qiraat Zikir and Selawat competition for secondary schools, Team 2 from Sayyidina Othman Secondary School won with 86.5 points in the male category, with Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School coming in second with 86 points.

In the female category, Sayyidina Husain Secondary School won with 89 points, and Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Secondary School Serasa came in second place with 86.5.

At the Dikir Syarafil Anam competition for primary schools, Katok B Primary School won the male category with 86.5 points while Kesuma Mekar Primary School came in second with 85.5 points. The Arabic Preparatory School Bandar Seri Begawan won the Female category with 87 points, followed by Sungai Siamas Primary School with 81.5 points.

The competitions, hosted by the Ministry of Education, aimed to provide exposure and guidance on zikir and selawat to students while encouraging to learn them with various melodies.

The contests were also a platform for students to discover talent, work in teams and have an opportunity to face a large audience.

The competitions also served as a catalyst to bring students closer through practising zikir and selawat for the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in daily life. – Rokiah Mahmud
