Competition celebrates cultural heritage of reciting ‘rawi’

Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Kampong Jerudong and Kampong Pelambayan Mosque were victorious in the men and women categories in a berzanji/rawi reading competition yesterday.

The competition saw 16 teams comprising mosque officials, mosque takmir committee members, members of mosque congregations and mosque youth compete in the art of berzanji/rawi reading.

Berzanji/rawi reading is synonymous with dikir, containing prayers and poems praising Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

The competition, held in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul, is part of the efforts to encourage berzanji or rawi reading in the public. It also provided participants with an opportunity to learn its techniques.

The competition also aimed to strengthen friendly relations among the participants.
