Competency framework for education specialists launched

The Brunei Darussalam Education Specialist Competency Framework (BDESCF) was launched by Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh yesterday.

“This framework is a testament of our Ministry of Education’s (MoE) continuous commitment to the development of quality education specialists,” said the minister during the opening ceremony of the 3rd Education Specialists Seminar at the BRIDEX International Conference Centre yesterday.

“It aspires to present an integrated vision for education specialists in mapping out their competencies and career pathways,” she said, adding that “the framework encapsulates the collective wisdom and expertise of our Education Specialists Track and Development Taskforce and education specialist talent pool.”

Meanwhile, the conference, organised by the Department of Educators Management at the ministry, saw 455 participants comprising educator specialists, special educational needs (SEN) Teachers, learning support and learning recovery team and teachers from the government and private schools of the MoE, Ministry of Religious Affairs; and Pusat Bahagia at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The annual seminar served as a platform to increase the level of professionalism among teachers who have the potential to become education specialists.

This year’s seminar sought to increase knowledge on curriculum adaptation and differentiation in accordance with existing curricular frameworks from childhood onwards, as well as to diversify pedagogical practices for SEN students.

The seminar aimed to also strengthen participants’ knowledge and expertise on how to enable students with learning gaps access learning and assessments.

This will ensure their full participation and achievement as well as to build and develop skills to adapt instructions and teaching strategies in order to effectively address the diverse learning needs.
