Company’s weighing equipment meets standards

The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE), through its Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), at the Ministry of Finance and Economy recently verified the accuracy reading of one unit of platform scale and five units of electronic balance machines used to weigh cattle and frozen meat owned by a company in Kampong Batang Mitus in the Tutong District.

The weighing machines were found complying with Chapter 151 of the Weights and Measures Act 1983 and Section 3(1) and (2) of the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations, 1994.

The IBE in a statement said, “As stipulated in the Section 3(2) of the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations, 1994, every person who uses or has in his possession for use for trading of any weight, measure or instrument for weighing not stamped as required by this regulation shall be guilty of an offence.

“The penalty for such offence is a BND1,000 fine or imprisonment for three months or both.

“The instrument for weighing shall be liable to be forfeited and any contract, bargain, sale or dealing made by such weight, measure or instrument for weighing will be deemed void.” – James Kon
