Company strives for excellence in oil and gas sector

Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) is committed to the pursuit of excellence by transforming natural gas into added value for social and economic development, said BMC Chief Executive Officer Jesús Enrique Mora Marín.

He said this during the launch of its Onshore Loading Facilities at its main compound at Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK) yesterday. The newly established facilities play a pivotal role in distributing methanol to the domestic market within the Sultanate, which goes beyond BMC’s traditional operations.

“We are more than just a petrochemical manufacturing plant in Brunei Darussalam. We actively provide continuous training and development to our employees, making sure they grow their skills and remain competitive,” added Marin.

BMC’s Chairman Takayuki Miyamoto shared the same sentiment as the new facilities represent their dedication to the development of Brunei’s economy and the strengthening of its downstream diversification drive.

“We, as shareholders, have not forgotten our responsibility to Brunei. The investment we have made in this facility to supply methanol in Brunei’s domestic market, paths way to us exploring new markets and creating opportunities that will contribute to the long-term prosperity of Brunei Darussalam, in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035,” said Miyamoto.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, in attending the event as the representative of the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said, “When BMC produced its first drop of methanol 13 years ago, it represented a significant point in Brunei Darussalam’s economic development journey as it marks the first foray in extending the value of its hydrocarbon resources, which until then, were exported exclusively in its crude and unprocessed form.”

He said, “It also takes place at an important juncture when a number of other downstream and petrochemical projects are about to embark on their respective expansion phases in parallel, thus giving BMC a strategic supporting role in the years to come.”
