A local company that had piled up used tyres along the bank of Kampong Limbongan river facing the bridge connected to Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas in Bandar Seri Begawan, received a BND200 compound fine from Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department’s Law Enforcement Division for violating Section 12(1)(a), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.
Company workers piling up used tyres along the river bank went viral on social media.
Investigations revealed that the used tyres had been piled up outside the designated unloading area for transportation by boat to a workshop in Kampong Sungai Kebun.
The offender has to settle the fine within seven days at the Finance Division, third floor of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so would result in a further BND1,000 fine or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.
For subsequent offences, the penalty is a BND3,000 fine and a prison term of up to three months.
The public is reminded not to dispose rubbish or pile up waste in public areas.
The BSB Municipal Department said the public can provide information on illegal dumping by contacting E-Darussalam at 123 or email to [email protected] or via WhatsApp at 8333123.
