Company fined BND2,000 for offences under TAP law

The Employees Trust Fund (TAP) produced a company before the Magistrate’s Court for failing to pay employee contributions under Section 23, Chapter 167 of the Employee Trust Act and Section 26 of the Supplemental Contributory Pension Trust Order 2009.

The director pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to make TAP and Supplemental Contributory Pension (SCP) schemes’ contribution payments for the employees within the stipulated time.

The Belait Magistrate’s Court fined the company BND2,000 and ordered it to pay the fine and outstanding TAP and SCP schemes contributions including accrued dividends of BND1,392.33 no later than June 15.

If convicted, the employer may be fined up to BND3,000 for the first offence, and up to BND10,000 for the second and subsequent offences, according to a press statement. – Azlan Othman
